65th Anniversary of US Atomic Bomb Attack in Nagasaki
Japanese city Nagasaki noted the 65th anniversary of U.S. atomic bomb attack, 32 countries were present on the occasion except American representatives. At 11:02 a moment of silence was observed, this was the time when United States dropped a bomb on the city in 1945 during World War II.
United States first nuclear bomb on Hiroshima and after three days they targeted Nagasaki. 80,000 people were killed in Nagasaki and within months, around 140,000 people either died or killed in Hiroshima. World War II ended on 15th August and Japan surrendered. This ceremony began with a song from the survivors of bombing and Mayor called for a nuclear free world.
“Nagasaki, together with Hiroshima, will continue to make the utmost efforts until the world gets rid of all nuclear weapons,” he said. United States dispatched John Roos as an Ambassador to the memorial ceremony in Hiroshima as a country’s first delegate but no one was sent to the anniversary of Nagasaki.
But, according to U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, ambassador was unable to attend Nagasaki’s ceremony due to conflicts in his schedule. Mayor was called by U.S envoy to tell him that he will visit Nagasaki in future. Delegations from 32 countries including nuclear powers like Britain and France attended the ceremony in Nagasaki.
