Chevy Volt from sinking GM
Detroit Hamtramck assembly facility of General Motors is busy building their new electric car, Chevrolet Volt. Back in 1990s, GM had one such electric car in their dreams, EV1. Never came out of the GM garages, people soon forgot EV1.
Expected to revolutionize the auto industry and the way Americans live and drive, these battery powered vehicles can be charged from the wall socket in a home. The Automobile startup Tesla’s roadster is already performing well in the market, an encouragement for veteran GM. Priced at around $40,000, Chevy Volt will start to roll on American roads by this fall.
However, the competition is still high. The Japanese car legends, Nissan is also coming up with all-electric leaf priced at $32,780, this car will average 100 miles on single recharge. Stiff again, BMW, Mitsubishi, Chrysler, Ford, all are planning to bring out electric versions of cars by this year or in the coming year by latest.
Issues related to electric cars are many. Performance of the battery is the main concern. However, GM offers an eight-year or 100,000 miles warranty for their batteries. Prices are another concern. Most electric cars are prices pretty high than gasoline cars in the current market.
