China sets up its first robot surgeon
China has developed its first robot surgeon, dubbed “A Little Hand,” able to participate in operations of high-precision surgery, reported the official newspaper China Daily.
The robot successfully participated, after three years of research, several animal operations in Tianjin municipality (northeast China), where he developed the program for its creation.
For its authors, “A Small Hand” can become a very useful aid in difficult surgical operations.
Jiang Xueming, head of medical department of the University Hospital of Tianjin, speaking about the new robot, explained that it is capable of movement and curves at 360 degrees. “Robots can be operated by remote control, there are many benefits,” added.
The doctors managed to “Hand Little A” using a projection in three dimensions and using a remote control through which the robot makes small interventions cut and suture within the patient’s body.
It is also able to provide patient information for doctors to carry out movements and actions more closely.
Many consider the robot as the latest innovation in the world of operating rooms and hospitals, besides being a major step in the development of robotic surgeons in China.
“A Small Hand” will be used in regular operations as well as cardiac surgery, which is supposed to be significantly reduced operating costs.
The robot is already being used in some hospitals in Tianjin.
