Error Code 80023017 Caused by PS3 Firmware Update 3.50
Many people that upgraded to Sony’s latest firmware version, the PS3 Firmware Update 3.50, are now having numerous problems logging in, their passwords don’t work anymore.
The gamers went crazy. Also if you try the forgotten password feature an Error Code 80023017 shows up.
The only solution to this so far is to wait. Sony are either doing a maintenence update or trying to fix the latest update bug that is stopping people from logging on. It will be fixed so give it some time and try again later.
If there will be another quicker fix to this issue you will find it here, meanwhile if you haven’t upgraded yet please wait for Sony to fix this problem.
Here’s an official message from Sony, it appears there is some maintenance going on!
The PlayStation Network will be taken offline for maintenance on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, for approximately 9 hours during the following maintenance window:

Wish this info was available a day or two ago. In all the confusion, I have reset my ps3 default settings and now all of the downloads, trophies, unlocks, profile, rank, etc…(months of activity) have all been reset to zero in one fell swoop!!! All of the hours spent downloading demos I had yet to play—-for naught! Oooooopsie!! ha ha (nervously) says SONY! I HOPE they’re nervous! Btw, how much is a 360 going for these days? JK! But, please fix this for all of us cuz I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that this sucks! Thanks for your attention regarding this matter! Yours truly, A current ps3 fan
