Experts suggest you get vaccinated this fall against seasonal influenza
This fall is a priority to ensure vaccination against seasonal influenza, as was stated by Prof. Ramón Cisterna, coordinator of the Task Force on Adult Immunization (GESVES), who reminded that the vaccine include As always, three strains, of which one is the cause of influenza A (H1N1).
Regarding vaccination against seasonal influenza, the teacher explained that Cisterna all international agencies this year are insisting on the need to get vaccinated, especially vulnerable people such as children, elderly and sick.
“The experience with these vaccines has shown they are reliable, safe and effective, we must restore public confidence in the vaccine against seasonal influenza and to achieve optimum coverage,” he stated.
During the Summer Course of the Foundation of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos ‘Vaccination of adults in the XXI century’, organized by the Gesves, gathered experts have expressed concern about the lack of awareness about the importance of vaccination that exists in society.
“Society is not yet convinced of the need to be vaccinated,” said Dr. Jose Luis Viejo Bañuelos, codirector of the course, GESVES member and head of Service of Pneumology of the Hospital General Yagüe (Burgos), for whom it is essential to develop a timetable vaccine for adults, “which would accommodate the new vaccines such as HPV, pneumococcus or Herpes Zoster.”
In this line, said that in Spain the rate of recovery in the general population is very low, only between 25 and 30 percent of adults are vaccinated against seasonal flu. Although the population over 65 years, the percentage rises to 65 percent, Professor Viejo Bañuelos, agrees that “we also have to increase this percentage.”
In his opinion, the vaccine is recommended for “all people who want to avoid the flu.” This would not only individual protection against the virus, but also by preventing the spread of it, is a benefit to society.
“We still have not accepted the concept of global extent of vaccination coverage, according to which, for example in the case of the flu, if a family member is shot, and avoid getting it himself, either the transmit or their children or parents, which may be a risk group, “he added.
