Facebook celebrates 500M users
Facebook, the undisputed heavyweight champ of social networking sites and easily, the planet’s most popular, celebrates a milestone.
It will sign up user number 500-million this week and secure a place in history.
Annette Stewart, one of those nearly half a billion users explains why she can’t stop using the site.
“Before it was a way to communicate with friends although I still do that the main reason I go on now is for the games.”
Whether it be for the games or for just catching up, the internet sensation has far exceeded the expectations of many.
Maybe it even shocked the founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg who debuted Facebook six years ago.
“Our goal is to let people share exactly with the people they want to and nothing else.”
That goal has not always come without controversy.
For example, earlier this year, when users discovered they were unwittingly sharing personal information with third parties, including advertisers.
That brought the wrath of millions and the attention of the federal trade commission.
But as long as social icons like Lady Gaga who, at over 10-million, has the most Facebook fans than anybody keep flocking to Facebook, social networking and the website will become as one.
