Hurricane Earl Projected Path to Hit Leeward Islands

The National Hurricane Center has issued a watch for Hurricane Earl for several Caribbean Islands. hurricane Ear is projected to gain momentum as it is heading towards Leeward Islands.

U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, as well as Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguill, St. Martin, St. Maaten, St. Barthelemy, Saba and St. Eustatius received the watch for Hurricane Earl. British Virgin Islands also received a watch alert.

In these places it is forecasted to be hurricane weather conditions for the next day and people in these area need to prepare themselves for the worst.

Hurricane Earl’s path is going west with a change to a west-northwest projection tomorrow. The Hurricane Center believes that Hurricane Earl will pass over or very close to the northern Leeward Islands on Sunday night or Monday. Leeward Islands is expected to receive around 3 to 5 inches of total rainfall with a possibility of a maximum of 8 inches of rainfall accumulation.

The Puerto Rico forecast from this storm cell is between 4 to 6 inches of total rainfall accumulation with a maximum of 12 inches possible in the higher elevations. Puerto Rico is in danger for flash flooding and mudslides.

Currently Hurricane Earl is considered a Category 1 level storm with sustained winds nearing 75 mph. The National Hurricane Center is predicting winds to become stronger in the next 48 hours with Earl becoming a major hurricane by Tuesday.
