Netflix soon to Offer iPhone Users Streaming Videos with Wi-Fi and 3G Support
Mentioned on the WWDC, Netflix will soon bring a streaming video app to Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The company announced that the app will be free of charge and is said to work over AT&T’s mobile 3G network and not only just Wi-Fi.
Many users may already know that AT&T has discontinued its unlimited 3G plan for new customers. Existing iPhone users already on the Unlimited Plan will keep their arrangements with AT&T, making it worth their while to stick to their current agreements. New customers however will be limited to either a 200MB or 2GB plan per month, which will prove costly when making use of the new Netflix app.
Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings announced the new app on stage, but did not go into detail about the app’s features. He did mention in short that Netflix for iPhone will pick up where a user left off in movies or shows they have already started watching, even on other devices. The new app also will make use of ‘Adaptive Bitrate Technology’ in order to maintain its connection when users move between networks.
