A strong earthquake of 7.2 magnitude rattled New Zealand Saturday morning at 4:35 a.m.
The epicenter of the earthquake was four miles south-southeast from Christchurch, on the nation’s south island. Christchurch is the nation’s second largest city having 372,000 population. According to the local media reports, a strong aftershocks and power outages is seen throughout the city.

Radio New Zealand said the earthquake was felt like a long rolling motion and it lasted up to about 40 seconds.
