Nintendo 3DS release date announced
The official launch date of Nintendo 3DS handheld has been announced. In Japan it would be released on February 26, 2011 and the price will be ¥25,000 (just under US$300). However, for the United States’ price nothing has been said by Nintendo. The company said it will be available in Europe and United States after March 2011.
Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, indicated that the Nintendo 3DS will be shipped this year itself and may be not enough units will be manufactured. Well, this delay of the Nintendo 3DS is a painful one, but the company has lowered the sales projections for existing Nintendo DS.
The sales is estimated to 23.5 million units from 30 million units. Nintendo has also lowered its forecasts of Wii sales. It is estimated to 17.5 million units from 18 million.
As a whole, Nintendo has cut its annual profit forecast. It is estimated to $1 billion from $2.4 billion.
