Oaxaca Mexico – Hundreds of sleeping residents killed by landslide

A ghastly landslide caused by the continuous and severe rains in the Mexican State of Oaxaca, left hundreds homeless and took the lives of even more. The landslide started at 4 a.m., when all the residents of the place were sleeping.

The homes in Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca were all destroyed by this awful incident which left more than 300 families homeless. 100 people are feared dead, though the death toll may rise much more. Many people are missing, and those who are buried under the debris are suspected dead.

Eye-witnesses said the reporters that the landslide carried down the houses, families, cattle, cars and everything that came in its way some 1200 feet downhill. The efforts of the survivors are going in vain due to the huge amount of mud covering the houses and families.

Rescue teams are arriving at the destination as fast as possible and are coming with some heavy machinery and search dogs to facilitate their search. Soldiers are also being forwarded to the affected places in Oaxaca.
