Search Engine Optimization Considered for Bing

For many years search marketers focussed all their efforts in search engine optimization on Google.com, but that could change when the Bing-Yahoo integration comes into effect according to experts speaking at the Search Marketing Expo.

According to estimations, once the integration takes effect, Bing may account for 30% of all Internet searches conducted. This percentage is nothing to ‘sneeze’ at. According to experts users will be faced with a two-engine world in future, a situation where users will need to give attention to SEO both in Bing and Google.

Experts confirmed that optimization techniques works both the same for Google and Bing, but the latter offers a few new opportunities for search marketers. One example is that Bing offers a preview box where more information is displayed on a website. Here marketers will have more control on what is displayed about their websites. The preview box can also display Youtube videos. Another mentioned advantage is the fact that Bing will display contact information if such information is available on the web page.

While some marketers complain that they simply cannot get enough traffic from Bing, some question if SEO will work for webmasters after the Bing-Yahoo integration. The only way to find out is to wait and test it, according to some marketers.

According to program manager, Sasi Parthasarathy, at Bing: “Ideally, it is the content and the relevance of what users like that matters.”
