Solar-powered plane takes 24-hour flight
Recently, in Switzerland the test flight of the solar powered aircraft has begun for a scale of 24 hours. This solar powered aircraft is expected to revolve around the globe one day and for this, the work is in progress. It is 80 miles from the northeast of Geneva, i.e. airfield in the Payerne from where the Solar Impulse flew around 5 am GMT on the Wednesday. Andre Borschberg is the pilot set for this plane which is expected to fly at an altitude of about 28,000 feet for the entire day. It will be in the evening that the aircraft will come down to the height of about 5000 feet where it is hoped to remain for all the night long, unless the pilot is ready to make a dawn landing. The solar powered aircraft or Solar Impulse has a weight of 1,600 kilograms with 22 meters in length. There are about12, 000 solar cells connected to the wings and also to the horizontal stabilizers. Like Airbus A340, the Impulse also has the wingspan of 63 meters. The highest speed attainable by the Solar Impulse is estimated to be 70 kilometers per hour with four electric engines installed in it. The aim for this solar powered aircraft is to fly it day and night but without any fuel said Bertrand Piccard, founder of the project.
