Steven Hawking says God does not exist!
There has been debate among the people of all time about the existence and non existence of God. Science when believes in the concept of development of man from monkey, religion says it is God who made man. Now, there has been a new touch to it, with the scientist, Steven Hawking claiming that the world does not need a God to run it. This has become appoint of controversy for the people to debate over, all across the globe. Some people think this is the truth as Steven would not have talked about anything concrete proof.
The religious leaders are sure to be annoyed with this statement of Steven. Steven said that the universe is capable of creating itself from nothing and that is what has happened as a result of which the world came up. He says it is totally unnecessary to invoke the blessings of God before starting your day.

Steven, I hope you are reading all the posts regarding your incredibly ignorant statement. Most people should just know that if you have nothing good to say, keep your mouth shut. Erich, what good reason do you have for attcking Steven about his opinion? And on what basis can you argue that your “threats” are credible – besides what it says in the Bible. If preachers are allowed to publicly say that God does exist, then non-believers should have the equal rights to say the opposite. It is perfectly rational to believe that there is no God – as both views cannot, as of yet, be proven, it it just an opinion, just like yours.

I think there is a God. And I think that understanding God will furthur Science. Spontanous creation is one of the defintions of God. I think taking God out of scientific thought is damning to the entire structure that science stands on.
Greatest Scientific Error and Fallacy of the Age:
This indeed is a very erroneous and fallacious comment from Steven Hawking who is supposed to be one of the world’s wisest men; if he is not indirectly saying that systems or systematic things can be created by non systematic things then Hawking is just discovering and erroneously misinterpreting the Systematic Nature of the body of LAWS OF NATURE which are systems designed to automatically or what he calls spontaneously create other systems at their far equilibrium points. These LAWS are the very WORDS OF GOD (His Decrees) designed to independently systematize all forms of energies into systems and systematic things while God is at REST. Don’t you remember His Words when He said “The Words I speak unto you they are spirit and they a life”? These Laws were created in the infinitely Omniscience Mind of the Most High God before they were Omni-potently spoken out in concise summaries like “Let there be” but with the big module in His Mind. These “Let there be” are greater and more complex than what anyone may think or imagine so if anyone likes to deceive himself even with the evidence of the truth in his hands let him do. Depends on what is your predominant world view and experience.
In typological analogy, Hawking is just indirectly saying that highly sophisticated systematic artificial intelligent programs, automatic machines and other systems that can operate independently to recreate or reproduce instances of themselves or even repay themselves according to Master plan does not need an original creator or intelligence source, planner, architect, programmer, and even does not need to be initialized but we know that all systems are absolutely the products of Intelligence.
NON SYSTEMS CANNOT CREATE A SYSTEM, neither can non intelligence create intelligence nor can non-life create life, these are part of the Laws of Nature which we cannot break remember? INTELLIGENCE is the creator of all SYSTEMS universally. The Body of Laws of Nature is in itself a SET of SYSTEMS which together constitute all existence and properties of all existent entities at their various points of intersections and equilibriums. If the law of gravity that he is talking about is in anywhere systematic to the extent of spontaneity, it is a system created by another system which will still finally end at a greater Intelligence source. So it is not the Laws that are the absolute but the Maker and Source of the laws is the Absolute. Step further Steven, you or others may discover a new thing behind the body of laws and another behind that still unto a long chain of causes behind those too. But definitely at a certain point you will discover the One and only One true God who is behind all things and the Source of all things and in whom all things consist. For your information His name is Almighty Jehovah who was made flesh in the Person of Jesus Christ.

Assuming God existed and did create the universe would imply you are observing actions and rules that God(or whatever you want to call it) allowed us to see. Thus, in itself negates any opinion on whether he exists because you cannot observe what he doesn’t allow you to observe. It’s like a bacterium in a petri dish can can observe all the rules the petri dish and then the bacterium exclaims there is no scientist or observer. Not good enough Mr. Hawkings. I think if any higher form existed, our little puny minds couldn’t even comprehend what it is let alone say he doesn’t exist. Just because you cannot observe something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Just because our theories explain something doesn’t mean it happened especially when trying to explain what happened almost 14 billion years ago.
To be honest my theory is that the bible is just the work of a very good writer if god truly does exist then why are there so many different religions that say different things and all these quotes people use from the bible are translated very vaguely as they don’t make sense so people just create there own theory from that quote so does that not just tell us that that is all religion is just 1000s of years of different theorys building up to try and argue the fact that there is a god?? I can probably bet in the next few hundred years or so that these quotes people use will be interpratated differently as the believers in the future will need to make more excuses against the facts of sceince constantly proving there is no god…

If we observe, think and reflect, we will see that the universe we live in is an orderly universe. There is Law and Order among all the units that comprise this universe and everything is assigned a place and a role in a grand scheme. Islam which means, among other things, peace, purity, submission to the Will of Allah ( call Him God, Lord, Eshwar, etc.) and obedience to His Laws; and a Muslim is the one who submits to the Will of Allah. This powerful Law which governs all that comprises the universe, is the law of God, the Creater and Ruler of the unioverse. Science is as good as the questions it asks and not the answers it is able to give.
The quality of scientific research depends solely on the level of consciousness of the scientist(s) involved, to come up with the right questions. However, with increasing consciousness also comes the challenge to be able to communicate with the rest of humanity in terms they will be able to grasp. At a certain level, it will become impossible to report back to humanity what is really going on and even scientific research will become superfluous compared to the state of being one has reached. At this point ordinary people will consider such a person crazy as they will be unable to communicate in a mutual language.
No human being will ever be able to reach the level of consciousness needed to ask the final question (scientific or not) and be able to report back with his or her findings. All science can do is come up with a most probable theory that never can be proven beyond doubt. But they still get an A+ for trying and contributing to the debate and instigating others to think about these big questions too.
PS The same goes for the understanding of religious texts and spiritual teachings. The higher the level of consciousness, the easier it is to integrate seamingly opposing theories and beliefs until these too become irrelevant for one’s being.

“The Grand Design” in no way explicitly states that there is no room for God in our lives. If you had read the book you would know that Hawking and Mlodinow do nothing more than state what is empirically true. They are not telling us their personal opinions but simply relate what is already known by the most intelligent human beings to have ever existed. If you only knew just how brilliant these people are you would be blown away by the complexity of their understanding. If, however, you want to plug your ears and pretend that these brilliant men are ignorant it is really just a reflection of your open-mindedness (or lack there-of). Remember that however smart you think you are and how much you think you, these men would burry you with their intellectual power. I think it is more important to consider all of the possibilities than to pretend they do not exist, and just because this book provides empirical evidence that THIS universe can exist without Gods design, does that really mean that there is no God; No. So the answer really is in your own heart. You are the one who is so afraid to explore the wonderful possibilities of our existence. And to you Erich, who do you think is more likely to be accepted by God, the gentle man who despite his condition has lived 20 years past his estimated death date and who shares his enlightenment with his fellow men, or the idiot who sprays hatred and judgement upon an innocent man just because he is so weak minded that he must defend that which he has no true concept of. Technically he could only theorize about everything in the universe simultaneously and that probably not very well as that’s a lot of stuff. The truth is we can’t really know until we’re out there so how about Mr. Hawking get on the Bamster about hooking us up with some sweet space action. How about a hugantic funding bill for the one organization that’s given us tons of really cool spinoff technology and innovation…NASA, and stop handing out all the candy to losers who should be going out of business for extreme lack of business accumen.
This is either being given too much credence since it’s an outrageously incorrect idea even from a scientific point of view, or perhaps Mr. Hawking is being taken out of context a bit. I vote for the second.
I like the above post about systems and non-systems. It appeals to me as a non-scientist. Perhaps it shouldn’t, but it does. How would a complex system be formed without a system to form it? Wouldn’t something forming with nothing to form it be similar to getting energy without matter or vice versa? Doesn’t this add up to a rebuttal of the conservation of matter?
I’d rather believe in God, die and find he does not exist, than not believe in Him and meet Him after death.

How are you going to find out that God doesn’t exist when you die, if there is nothing after death? Once you die, if there is nothing, you will be totally unconscious and completely unaware of your surrounding.
On the other hand, if there is something after death, and, if you meet God thereafter, why do you have to assume that this meeting is going to be unplesant and He is going to punish you?
I am so tired of people repeating nonsense without thinking about what they are saying.

What you said really did not make much sense, read up about stuff more before you make stupid statements. To say science is nothing but nonsense shows your lack of education or open-mindedness. In any regard, do yourself a favour and try to understand the world and the universe we live in by reading facts and proven knowledge rather than a fictional theology made up over 2000 years ago when humans thought the earth was the center of the universe, the earth was flat, the world was created only a few thousand years before, etc (I could carry on listing the flaws in reasoning back then but you get the gist)

Steven is a very intelligent man…..and so is Bill Maher. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and it does not bother me when people say they dont believe in God….it doesn’t shake my faith at all…..What I mean is not everybody is suppose to believe in God….I’m not saying they are going to hell but someone has to be here for the tribulation! I do find it funny though that athiest spend so much time arguing that they is no God when actually they are giving Him the best publicity! This is a non argument and one that has gone on way too long. Science is intelligent application and religion is creative enlightenment…they both go together in our quest to realize our own existence. Ask yourself one question what am I? Am I a being of light created by God or am I the product of cell manipulation and evolution. Either way the answer of self proclamation is one that’s open to argument…if you so choose. The simple sense is there are no answers for either point other than belief/faith in either scientific explanation or God (of the choosing) and that my dear friends is the case of the non argument. IT’S OPINION and that doesn’t need to lead to argument. For the record I have faith in a God and am happy to except science law because to be honest I understand neither too well
If The Hawkster wants to say there’s no God that’s up to him, as is the right for people to fight for their religion. “Why do we feel the need to do this?” is the real question. It seems to cause more trouble than either a God would want or science can answer. peace to you all!

there is no god, or devils, spirits, demons, angels, heaven, hell, purgatory, afterlife, before life, reincarnation, other side, etc… AND there is no soul, just the mind and the body. Make the best of everything, when you die you have no more chances.
@jeffrey: in the big bang everything was energy not atoms. matter and energy are the same thing and one can be converted into the other. The conservation means they can’t be destroyed, or created out of nothing. Destroying matter merely converts it to energy. Creating matter is done from energy.

Hawking should not be talking about God in the context of science. I suspect he has ulterior motives. Maybe the guy is angry.
That being said, say you have a patch of woods and people say there are bears in the woods. You watch for years and never see any bears. Nor do you see any evidence of bears. You never hear any bears make noise. You only have people telling you there are bears in the woods.
So you map out a grid. You cover the entire woods square by square. You never see or hear any bears. You never find bear fur. You don’t see any tree bark worn down by a bear using it to scratch himself. No evidence of bears whatsoever.
When is it reasonable to conclude there are no bears in those woods despite what people say?

A few millenia back, it was believed that the rising and the setting of the sun was an act of God.. Several centuries back, it was believed that even a bird flying was an act of God.. Today, science has slowly and steadily progressed to a phase where even ordinary minds like us know why are how these things happen..
This is because of great minds like Galileo, Newton and Mr. Hawkings is surely no less! To overcome such a severe disability and still stand tall in this world and to be respected is no mean achievement. This says so much about Hawkings and people like Erich or Sajed disrespecting him is an act of shame..
Coming back to the point, the daily happenings in this universe themselves are quite comples and it has taken mankind 6000 years (that we clearly know of) to guven an explanation to them.. Now trying to find an answer to the biggest question of all- the creation of the universe surely is going to require more n more research and understanding.. But I’m sure, some day in the future, theis question will also be answered..
Till then believers in God can continue to do so.. and people who think that science will asnwer this question can continue to find an answer! Accusing each other is only a matter of shame.. The only irony is that we may not be alive when the moment actually comes..

I don’t believe that science rules God out. Watching Steven Hawking’s tv programme I feel I understand God better. God is the breath that created life on this earth. Yes the atoms became available for life to occur but it is God
