Sumatra hit with one of major earthquake!

Southern Sumatra was rocked by a major earthquake at about 10.42 pm at night on Monday. The earthquake was measure at 7.5 at the Richter scale. The U.S geological survey said that the epicenter of the quake was78 kilometers west of Indonesia’s Pagai Selatan Island, off Sumatra’s western coast at a depth of nearly 15km.The Indonesian meteorology department had initially issued a warning after the quake but withdrew it finally. They said in statement that the earthquake did not pose any Tsunami threat. The tremors lasted for more than a minute which made people flee out of their homes. It must be noted that Indonesia lies in the pacific ring of fire which makes it highly vulnerable to quakes. Indonesia, its adjacent regions of Java & all such islands have been bearing the brunt and ire of storms, quakes & floods for many ages now.
Some of them take a devastating form while some don’t cause much damage. Well who can forget the quake that hit off Sumatra’s coast on Dec 26, 2004 which triggered a great tsunami in the Indian Ocean killing thousands of people?
