Super Harvest Moon today

Today is the end of summer 2010. Today is the last day summer in the Northern Hemisphere. From tomorrow the autumn season begins that will be coinciding with today’s full moon. In two decades this is the first time that stars have aligned for an event (just a phrase in close context).

The moon rise of autumn will be beautifully blend with today’s sun set producing a unique “360-degree style” twilight. Sky will be illuminated with the two low-in-the-sky light sources. The sky seems beautiful today evening and with this additional twilight lighting the name Harvest Moon originated in the celestial calendar. The farmers in autumn depends on moonlight for harvesting their crops.

Don’t forget to look at the moon for long today as it travels across the sky today night. It may look little different. Dr. Tony Phillips from NASA says that we may see the “moon illusion” at work. The moon will look large, abnormally. It is an optical illusion which only comes when the moon sits lower than usual in the sky.
