Almost 70 percent of people suffering from dementia are over 75 years of age and as such this finding may come in handy as Vitamin E protects people over the age of 80 from AD.
This research was conducted in collaboration with the Institute of gerontology and Geriatrics, University of Perugia, Italy by the Aging Research Center (ARC) Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.
The method used to identify this was carried out at Stockholm and 232 people all aged 80 years and above and free from dementia, from the Kungsholmen Project participated in this. The study lasted for about six years when regular follow ups were done and came up with 57 Ad cases.
The vitamin E levels in the blood were measured and it was concluded that people with high blood levels of the vitamin components had reduced risk of AD almost up to 45 – 54 % depending on the vitamin component present.
