Trigger points of Stroke
Stroke is now a silent and dreaded killer all around the globe, who would pounce at the most unexpected of moments. They are of two types : ischemic and hemorrhagic. In a patient suffering from an ischemic stroke a clot blocks blood flow to the brain, whereas in the hemorrhagic stroke, a blood vessel is ruptured. There are various factors that lead to stroke, and if some precautions are taken from a very early stage, its risk maybe brought down up to a certain level. Let us first try to understand what triggers stroke.
According to the Canadian-led study appears in The Lancet, stroke is caused mainly due to high blood pressure. Although this is a root cause in most cardiovascular diseases, high pressure has a vital role in increasing / decreasing the risk of death by stroke. A normal blood pressure can bring down the risk of stroke to up to at least 50%. The project, named ‘Interstroke’ analysed the condition of over 6,000 people in 22 different countries, and was conducted between March 2007 and April 2010.Other factors include drinking and smoking, along with obesity, cholestrol and improper diet which is rich in trans fat and calories. The study, conducted by Salim Yusuf and his team at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, has also found that high amount of lipids in blood can cause ischemic stroke. The research was conducted on both types of strokes, and it was concluded that there are common factors that can trigger stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
