U.S. Open to be televised on ESPN2, instead CBS
U.S. Open men’s final will not be shown on CBS. Instead, it will be televised on ESPN2 on Monday because of the rain delay.
In fact the match was scheduled to be held on Sunday, but due to the rains, it had been postponed to Monday. It was scheduled after 4 p.m. EDT on CBS, but as it was suspended due to rain just after 6 p.m. it became clear the delay would last a while. So, it moved to ESPN2.
LeslieAnne Wade, CBS spokeswoman, said that ESPN had more flexibility than CBS in its schedule.
She said further, “Our affiliates have their own schedules… Once it starts to go outside the traditional sports window, we have less freedom.”
The officials of U.S. Tennis Association was in regular touch with both networks for several days to set up contingency plans once the forecast showed rain for Sunday.
