World’s First Flying Car
Challenging it may appear, but at Terrafugia, it is their passion. When an MIT graduate Carl Dietrich ventured into designing the world’s first flying car, he had to face many challenging engineering hurdles. Once Federal Navigation Administration gave their green signal, priced at $194,000, Terrafugia have already received more than 80 preorders.
To become the first street legal plan, the Transition had to incorporate airbags and other security features in a car. Though this put up an extra weight of 110 pounds than a normal light-weight jet, the FNA gave their go and this vehicle is all set to become the World’s first street-legal plane.
In about the time taken to lower the top of a convertible, the air-road transition of the vehicle can take place. The vehicle should use an airport for taking off and landing and while in air it can speed up to 110 miles per hour.
Almost reaching the length of a limousine, this flying car can reach up to 60 miles per hour on road. Planning to start deliveries by the end of 2011, within 5 years Dietrich is expecting a production of 300-400 flying cars annually.
